TWOWS 05

I had a good day. After finishing my regular research work, I had attended an Inaugural function of an International conference for Women in Science [TWOWS]. The conference was organized by TWAS. Prof V S Ramamurthy gave a welcome address. Prof C N R Rao gave a breif outline about TWAS and the women forum in TWAS. Our Honorable President Dr A P J Abdul Kalam inaugurated the function. This is the first time for me to listen his public speech. It’s really superb. He started with the Poem of Subramania Bharathiar about women. Nimirntha Nannadayum, Naer Konda Parvaiyum…. And he spoke about Madam Curie. He added about his Colleagues. He was speaking about the research field, what we need presently like sensing earthquake before a week or two and he spoke about the importance of Nanotechnology and Biotechnology. I am sure all delegates might enjoyed.

Friendship

  • Your friend is the man who knows all about you, and still likes you.
  • Friends are like melons; shall I tell you why? To find one good you must one hundred try.
  • Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some stay for awhile and leave footprints on our hearts. And we are never, ever the same.
  • A friend loves at all times.
  • In the sweetness of friendship let there be laughter, and sharing of pleasures.
  • A real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world walks out.
  • A friend hears the song in my heart and sings it to me when my memory fails.
  • A faithful friend is the medicine of life.
  • Count your age with friends but not with years.
  • Plant a seed of friendship; reap a bouquet of happiness.
  • No man is useless while he has a friend.
  • A true friend is someone who is there for you when he'd rather be anywhere else.
  • Good friends are good for your health.
  • A true friend is one who overlooks your failures and tolerates your success!

Swami Vivekananda

  • Stand up for God; let the world go.
  • This is the gist of all worship - to be pure and to do good to others. He who sees Siva in the poor, in the weak, and in the diseased, really worships Siva, and if he sees Siva only in the image, his worship is but preliminary. He who has served and helped one poor man seeing Siva in him, without thinking of his cast, creed, or race, or anything, with him Siva is more pleased than with the man who sees Him only in temples.
  • It is impossible to find God outside of ourselves. Our own souls contribute all of the divinity that is outside of us. We are the greatest temple. The objectification is only a faint imitation of what we see within ourselves.
  • To succeed, you must have tremendous perseverance, tremendous will. "I will drink the ocean," says the persevering soul, "at my will mountains will crumble up." Have that sort of energy, that sort of will, work hard, and you will reach the goal.
  • Giving up all other thoughts, with the whole mind day and night worship God. Thus being worshipped day and night, He reveals himself and makes His worshippers feel His presence.

Albert Einstein

  • Any intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius -- and a lot of courage -- to move in the opposite direction
  • Imagination is more important than knowledge
  • Gravitation is not responsible for people falling in love
  • I want to know God's thoughts; the rest are details
  • Weakness of attitude becomes weakness of character
  • Science without religion is lame. Religion without science is blind
  • Science is a wonderful thing if one does not have to earn one's living at it
  • Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the the universe
  • A is a success in life, then A equals x plus y plus z. Work is x; y is play; and z is keeping your mouth shut
  • The secret to creativity is knowing how to hide your sources

A P J Abdul Kalam

  • Thinking should become your capital asset, no matter whatever ups and downs you come across in your life.
  • Thinking is progress. Non-thinking is stagnation of the individual, organisation and the country. Thinking leads to action. Knowledge without action is useless and irrelevant. Knowledge with action, converts adversity into prosperity.
  • When you speak, speak the truth; perform when you promise; discharge your trust…. Withhold your hands from striking, and from taking that which is unlawful and bad…
  • All God's creatures are His family; and he is the most beloved of God who tries to do most good to God's creatures.
  • My worthiness is all my doubt His Merit – all my fear- Contrasting which my quality Does however appear
